When parties decide to end their marriage they must divide the marital property. For a variety of reasons, this can often be an extremely contentious issue. In some cases, this process is simple. On other occasions, however, this process can be very complex.

In Washington State, most property acquired after the marriage is considered community property. There are, however, importance exceptions, such as inheritances, personal injury lawsuits and some kinds of gifts. Property obtained prior to a marriage is typically considered separate property.

About David M. Lux

David has been a practicing divorce attorney since 1998. Since that time, David and the attorneys who work with him have successfully represented hundreds of clients, helping individuals and families achieve their goals. He was admitted to the Washington State Bar Association in 1995 and was admitted to the Maryland Bar Association in 1996.

David Lux graduated from University of Delaware with honors in 1990, with a Bachelors of Arts degree. He graduated from Capital University Law School in Columbus Ohio in 1994, earning his Juris Doctorate degree. While at Capital University Law School, David was on Dean’s List.
